First of all, make a list of all the things you want from the new bathroom.

A roomy, well -lit shower, sharp edge appliances, water flowing tubs, nice view, etc.

Don´t forget to consider the reality. Now is the time to identify the practical issues that will set limits on the design. These are the hard realities: budget, building codes, the physical and structural limitations of the space, the feasibility of changing plumbing and wiring, and the amount of work you intend to do yourself.

Do not view these issues as obstacles to creating a wonderful design – view them rather as opportunities for creative problem solving.

Planning is the most important step in the whole process. So take your time. It will take weeks and even months to be ready.

In order to get a good light distribution, we need to select the right shade on a table or floor lamp. A shade spreads the amount of light given by a bulb in a certain way.

The wider the botton of the shade, the bigger the light spread it gets. A shade that is too narrow can keep the light from reaching the entire area you want to iluminate. On the other side a shade that is to wide can spread the light too far.

To adjust 2 inches in the diameter of the shade can make a noticeable difference in the light spread.

We have to pay attention to the bulb as well. A tall bulb will cause the filament to be positioned higher in the shade than a smaller one, reducing the light spread from the bottom of the shade. This problem can be solve by raising the shade or the bulb.

Light can do much more than illuminate your house. Well-designed lighting can highlight an art piece, improve safety and change the mood.

The effect of light depends on the combination of its distribution, color and intensity.

Understanding how these aspects of light affect our surroundings will constitute an effective instrument in lighting design.

Hospital studies showed that patients recovered better and faster when rooms were pained in warm colors and bathed in the optimum amount and tone of light.

Elegant restaurants paid lots of attention to lighting for moods. And even fast food chains hire lighting designers to improve their restaurants.

Light can make you feel calmer just by being in a room, or on the contrary can make you want to leave inmediately .

When designing or redesigning interior lighting, emotional as well as visual effect should be taken into account. Different rooms evoke different feelings, and lighting can enhance those feelings or destroy them.

Understanding the basic concepts of light and lighting will help you invest your time and money in achiveving the effect you desire.

Put lighting to work on your side!!!

To avoid getting overwhelmed let´s go step by step. Do one area at the time. The first thing we need is to clear and clean every corner of that space. Let´s take everything out, all the furniture, rugs, paintings, everything! Let´s scrub old energies out!

Then we will pick up the paint colors, as well as the proper material accordingly with the compass points.

Color is a Feng Shui cure because each color of the rainbow is associated with one of the nine life areas. The calm colors of green bring balance and harmony to family life because the vibrations of the color are slow and steady. Colors have the power to uplift or depress the chi in a room. For example, painting a baby’s room sunshine yellow is not ideal because this color stimulates the body and the purpose of a baby’s room is to calm them for a good night sleep or nap.

Each color is stimulating or soothing. When decorating think about what you need to accomplish in the area you are presently working. For bedrooms you want to pick soothing colors. Bedrooms, family rooms and bathrooms are best painted soft shades of blues and greens.

Reds, oranges, and yellows are energetic colors and they are best suited for dining rooms, itchens and playrooms. Colors in Feng Shui are an inexpensive way to quickly change the chi in the room. We can uplift the chi from a dining room by using a red table cloth or by having yellow seat cushions.

If you want passion in your life use high powered colors such as reds and oranges.

Oranges are happy, refreshing and revitalizing. Good for kitchens and playrooms. In softer shades great for family rooms where you want fun and relaxation.

Yellows are happy, creative and vital.

Greens are healing, renewal, balanced and calm. Great for living rooms and bedrooms.

Blues are healing and relaxing. Blue is great in a patient´s room.

Indigois a relaxing color. It is great for kids. It keeps health in the home.

Purple are richness, wealth, abundance and transformation.

Tired of the same old look at your spaces?

We can redecorate by reusing the furniture, paintings and ornaments we already have.

Let´s work one room at the time.

Take all the paintings, rugs and ornaments off the room. I placed them in a room that I was not going to work on. All the pieces were set in a way that I could have a glance at them very easily. I did the same with four rooms at the time.

Then I analyze and decide what items to use in the room I was redecorating.

I rearrange small mirrors from all four bedrooms in a wall making a nice composition.

The painting from the living room make a focal point on the wall of that space.

And the rugs combine just beautifully with the curtains I just pick for that particular room.

Try hard not to move the complete blocks of furniture-accesories. The idea is to mingle them to have new combinations.

I am sure that you will enjoy the experience and will find that old stuff like new.

Spring is just around the corner. Let´s prepare ourselves and our homes to be in the mood to receive the new season.

Let´s start by opening the curtains, get rid of the heavy window treatments. Replace them with soft light, see through fabric ones. Let the light get into your place.

Let´s add colorful decorative compliments like vases, full of scented, vibrant flowers.

As far as the bedroom stays with the quilts, we won´t feel the spring feeling, let´s change them with cotton, or light chenille bedspreads.

The whole house, or apartment will get the Spring smell with the use of aromatic candles.

1. Use lighter soft colors, as they will reflect better light. That does not mean to have all the walls painted in white. There are all sorts of lighter pastel colors. Once you picked your walls colors, then you should pick the paint for the moldings. They should be lighter. The lighter tone will look closer making the walls to look more distant, giving the feeling of a larger space.

2. Use mirrors, they reflect day light as well as night light in a wonderfull way.

3. Arrange furniture in angles. The longest straight line is the diagonal, in placing your sofa in a diagonal leads the eye into the longer dimenssion, rather then to the smaller wall. And you will have an extra storage space behind the sofa.

4. Keep the furniture in scale with the room.

5. Use multifunction furniture, will optimize the use of space.

To decorate a kids bedroom is a total different approach than a grown up bedroom. Is their place to play, day dream or just to be alone sometimes.

The following strategies will make it easier for you to design their little place:

1. Talk to that little person, find out what his/hers favorite characters, colors and themes are.

2. Let them help you in the process, let them decide how they want to show his/her collectibles.

3. Make it mulifunctional, as they use it as play area, reading area, work area and entertaiment area.

4. Make shelving a priority. Storage containers, storage cabinets the more they have the better it gets. Try to give them enough space to put away all their stuff and teach them how to keep them organize.

5. Window treatments must be simple. Avoid long fabric draperies. The fabric used should be versatile. And the pattern should be repeated in pillows, bedspreads, lampshades.

6. We must pay attention to proper Lighting. We should include task lighting for homeworks and readings, as well as soft light for quieter times. Night light is also important.

7. Use wallpaper or paint. You can add a border to the top of the wall and clouds and stars to the ceiling. Make sure the walls are washable. Kids love bright colors but keep them for decorative compliments. Unless you have a big room, in that case you can add one bright color wall.

8. Allow the child to pick the rooms theme. For example, race cars, underwater, outer space, jungle motifs, airplanes, trains, dragons, etc.
