Para ponernos en el ánimo navideño, decoramos una de las paredes del ambiente donde se reúne la familia, como una noche estrellada. Será la perfecta escenografía para el arreglo navideño.

Primero debemos poner los colores de fondo que simulen la noche, la selección de los tonos depende de tu creatividad, podemos probar las combinaciones en papel o cartón antes de aplicarlo a las paredes. Una vez seleccionados los colores, utilizando la técnica del “rag out”… damos vida a ese cielo nocturno!!!

Ahora solo nos queda por incorporar las estrellas que lo conseguimos mediante el “salpicado”.

Both can add a great effect in the decoration of your home, it depends on how you choose to use them.

Here are the advantages and disadvantages of both of them:

Advantages:
Lower cost
Easy to apply
It can be used to draw attention to a feature
It can be used to disguise a feature
It needs less preparation time
It can hide poor condition walls
By using the right technique it can add warmth, character, and beauty to a place
There is no limit of what you can do with the proper painting techniques


Disadvantages
Oil based paint dry slow
It needs a long drying time between coats.
It has a tendency to run
You can add texture

Wallpaper

Advantages

It will last longer than paint (10-15 years)
It can last five times longer than paint under normal conditions, making it a very economical choice
It will save you over 30 percent of your repainting costs

Disadvantages

It may be harder to do than painting
It exaggerates any wall imperfections
It is difficult to remove
It takes more the time to apply it
In humid conditions, the glue may loosen and can actually cause the wallpaper to peel from the wall
It is also easily soiled and damaged.
Over time it can be nearly impossible to match the colour or pattern of your wallpaper should it become damaged and need replacing.
This can be overcome by keeping a few spare rolls when you first wallpaper but be aware that the wallpaper already on the walls may look faded in comparison to the new rolls thanks to fading by the sun over time. Wallpaper is also costly to replace.

7) Likewise, when water slowly is drained when added to a flowerpot . Green Roofs act like a huge sponge and giving a relieve in the pressure of the water collection after rainfalls.

8) Green Roofs and Walls photosynthesis process consumes CO2 and releases O2.

9) Green Walls and Roofs massively reduce street noise and vibration.

10) Green Walls and Roofs help restore habitat for birds and butterflies. They provide food, water, protection and a place for offspring to bear and raise.

11) Green Roofs add significantly to your buildings value. It has been proven that landscaping adds 15- 20% to a buildings value.

La industria solar sigue su crecimiento, aunque concordamos que aún no hemos llegado al punto de satisfacer todas las necesidades existentes, pero estamos en el proceso…en todo caso si existe la necesidad de tener una respuesta rentable a la demanda de electricidad ecológica.

Lo interesante del sistema es que puede ser instalado en tierra, sobre tejados, sobre los techos de los vehículos.

Si le preguntamos a cualquier diseñador, cual es el parámetro más importante del diseño en nuestro tiempo, coincidirá al decir, que es “Sostenibilidad” (Sustainability).

Para tener claro lo que el término implica, analicemos varios escenarios donde ha funcionado de manera eficiente el concepto:

La ciudad de Curitiba en Brazil.

El transporte público masivo, muy eficiente, rápido y muy económico, integra toda la ciudad a través de las avenidas de uso únicamente para el transporte público.
El bajo costo y la rapidez del servicio ha dado como resultado, que los habitantes prefieran no sacar sus vehículos de casa.

También se promovió el incluir espacios verdes. Los mismos que se ven enriquecidos con la interacción social, de esta manera se ha dotando al centro de más áreas de esparcimiento y recreación.
Los caminos peatonales promueven realizar ejercicio al caminar al aire libre, o con la práctica del ciclismo. Finalmente la mira es tener una ciudad con menos polución.

Curitiba constituye la capital ecológica de Brazil, con una cadena de 28 parques y bosques. En 1970, correspondía 1 m2 de área verde por habitante, hoy en día la proporción ha cambiado a 52m2 por persona.

Los residentes han plantado 1.5 millón de árboles a lo largo de las calles de la ciudad.

Los constructores tienen rebajas tributarias al incluir espacios verdes en sus proyectos.

Los pobres de Curitiba, se reciben tickets para alimentos o transporte, a cambio de los deshechos que son llevados a los centros de acopio.

Bajo el programa de “Basura que no es Basura” el 70% de los deshechos es reciclado.
Una vez a la semana pasa el camión recolector de papeles, cartones, plástico, vidrio, tejidos, etc.
Solo con el reciclaje del papel 1.200 árboles diarios dejan de ser cortados.
Además de los beneficios de reciclar, el dinero recaudado de la venta de los mismos se utiliza en obras sociales.

La ciudad emplea a los desamparados para separar los materiales reciclables.

Por todo lo expuesto, Curitiba es ejemplo de una ciudad con desarrollo “Sostenible”.

En el área corporativa, bajo el slogan “Nada se pierde, todo se gana” Preserve ha logrado producir varias líneas de artículos para el hogar, reciclando plástico recogido en particular de “Stonyfield Farms”.

En cuanto a campañas de gobiernos, no podemos dejar de realtar la de Japón “Cool Bizz” que motiva a los ejecutivos y empleados en general a ir vestidos más informalmente y ligermante durante el verano, para bajar los consumos de aire acondicionado de las empresas, lo que reduce el consumo de luz del país.

There are two types of green roofs: intensive and extensive. Intensive green roofs can accommodate large trees, shrubs, and well maintained gardens. They can be regularly accessed and use is encouraged. The intensive roof garden is designed with a minimum of a foot of soil depth, which can add 80 – 150 pounds per square foot of load to the building structure. The design also includes complex irrigation and drainage systems because annual precipitation can not feed the more intensive plant life. Regular maintenance for an intensive roof garden is required. The extensive green roof is more low key. It can accommodate many kinds of vegetative ground cover and grasses. Plants from the Sedum genus are usually used because they are hardy and colorful. Access and use of the roof by the public is generally restricted for an extensive roof garden. The extensive roof garden is designed with only one to five inches of soil depth, which can add 12 – 50 pounds per square foot (dry weight) depending on soil characteristics and the type of substrate. The design also includes a simple irrigation and drainage system. Maintenance on an extensive roof garden is minimal.

The construction of roof gardens can be difficult, due to the many layers involved. See figure 1 below.

The bottom layer is the roof construction. The roof construction must have a waterproofing layer that is durable enough to safeguard the structure over time with minimal maintenance. An example of a commonly used waterproofing agent is a fluid-applied rubberized asphalt waterproofing membrane. Above the waterproofing layer is the moisture retention protection mat that retains a portion of the precipitation for future plant usage. Contained within the moisture retention protection mat is a root retardant that prevents plant roots from penetrating. Root barriers often contain copper sulfate to retard plant growth. The next layer is the drainage layer. Various kinds of drainage layers are used by different contractors. Some layers have drainage channels that allow excess precipitation to collect and drain. Others contain small cups that collect excess precipitation that can be absorbed into the soil medium for plant use in the future. The water contained within the cups provides a moist, beneficial subsoil environment for the plants, without allowing fungus or root rot. Next a filter fabric mat is installed to prevent soil particles from entering the drainage layer.
The final layer consists of the soil medium. Ordinarily, good soil is very heavy due to its high clay content (Wood 2004). Because of the loads already associated with green roofs, lighter soil mediums are required. Soil medium used for green roofs is a combination of shale, pumice, sand, and organic matter. Care must be taken when preparing the soil mixture to prevent the export of pollutants. Mixes with large quantities of compost have been shown to export nitrogen and phosphorus. The USDA-Agricultural Research Service suggests providing the mix with a quality mature compost manufactured using industrial byproducts high in iron and manganese to reduce phosphorus solubility and increase heavy metal adsorption. The mix must promote hydrated plant life, but prevent over-saturation. The depth of the soil medium depends on the type of green roof under construction.

The final step of the whole process is the selection and installation of the vegetation. Vegetation should be chosen for its ability to thrive in the local climate, withstand the harsh conditions of a roof, and imitate the surrounding landscape’s diversity. It also needs to withstand direct radiation, drought, frost, and strong wind conditions. For an intensive green roof, trees, bushes, and other large plants are suitable. For an extensive green roof, smaller plants and grasses are more appropriate.

Green Roof can reduce water runoff, easing the local sewers and water treatment systems. By improving insulation air conditioning energy compsumption lowers and so does power plants demand.

Europe buildings have being using green rooves for over a decade. New Tokyo construction regulations require that at least 20% of medium and large building´s roof has to be green.

In the States the leader is Chicago, on most of the new buildings the rooves are green!
